Fauci's diary said 0.2 to 0.3 percent, his testimony five weeks later 1 percent

Sen. Rand Paul's office posted 1,141 pages of Anthony Fauci's pandemic diary on Saturday. The file was gone from the release site by Monday evening, and back with redactions by Tuesday morning. Fauci testifies under subpoena before Paul's committee on Wednesday.

Inside it is a pair of dates anyone can check. On Feb. 8, 2020, Fauci wrote that the case fatality rate looked closer to 0.2 or 0.3 percent than 2 percent. Five weeks later he told the House Oversight Committee it was roughly 1 percent, about ten times seasonal flu.

Four of the ten camps ran the story, and each led with a different page of it. The Christian Post printed "I am the most famous and talked about person in the country" [522] as its lead, putting vanity ahead of virology. Breitbart led with the lab leak. NPR set Paul's charge that "What he wrote privately and what he told the country are two different stories" [162] against a virologist's caution that private uncertainty during a fast-moving outbreak is not proof of concealment. Six camps ran nothing.

The February number is checkable against the March testimony. The 1,141 pages around it are another matter: no outlet today offered independent verification of the document's authenticity beyond Paul's own office. [162]

In July 2021, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund invested $2 billion in Kushner's newly formed fund over its own screening panel's objections; that investment has since drawn formal inquiries from the House Oversight Committee and the Senate Finance Committee into whether Kushner's family finances could shape U.S.-Saudi policy (House Oversight, Senate Finance letter to Affinity Partners). On July 22, 2026, Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman signed a "123" nuclear cooperation agreement; DOE's own announcement touts nonproliferation standards but does not itself confirm enrichment rights, while multiple outlets report the deal could let Saudi Arabia enrich uranium and reprocess plutonium, terms the U.S. denied the UAE under its 2009 "gold standard" accord.
